Three layers, in this order — and nothing is stored just because a model sounded confident.

Curated open sources
Every profile starts from public botanical references. We retrieve the matching record, keep the source URL next to the value, and prefer structured taxonomy over prose.

AI enrichment with a second opinion
A writer model proposes a value field by field, citing the evidence it used. A separate verifier model checks each proposal against that evidence, and only values that clear a confidence threshold are written. Uncertain fields are left empty rather than guessed.

Community reports & review
Gardeners can report a wrong or missing detail from inside the app. Reports land in a review queue, and accepted corrections roll back into the shared database for everyone.
Plant data is guidance, not a guarantee. Cultivars, microclimates and your own soil always have the last word — which is why Vegarden lets you override any value on your own plants.

A plant list is only useful when it already fits your space. Inside Vegarden, the database is filtered by what you told us during onboarding.

Hardiness zones, frost dates and temperature limits narrow the list to what can actually finish a cycle where you live — including the southern hemisphere.
The light you actually get
Four hours of afternoon sun on a balcony is a different garden from a south-facing yard. Sunlight requirements are matched to the exposure you measured.
Space and container size
Spacing, mature size and root depth are checked against your beds and pots, so nothing you plant outgrows the container it is in.
